Nina Cherney lives and works in Montreal. She completed a degree in Fine Arts at Concordia University. She has been painting and exhibiting professionally for over 10 years and is represented by galleries in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Her work is found in many private and public collections in Canada, the United States and Brazil. Her landscapes display an exuberant palette and loose interpretation that push the paintings towards rich harmonious abstracted works. Her dynamic , expressive brushwork and the relationships between colour and form forces the eye in and out of the spaces of the painting, attempting to lay bare the visual music lurking below the surface.
Her latest series are of landscapes in which she aims to capture a particular moment, a moment where natural beauty overwhelms us. The large scale and thick layers of paint are intended to translate this awe and joy. The colours are vivid and intense, forcing the viewer to react.
